On-Line Processing
With Internet Access, you can process charges
On-line processing means being able to process credit card transactions right over the Internet. On-line processing always involves a gateway. The gateway is your intermediary between yourself and the credit card authorization center.
There are typically two elements to the gateway. You can connect your Internet site to the gateway and have customers place orders straight from your web site. Usually you need an on-line shopping cart to pass order information from your web site to the Gateway.
The other element of the gateway is what is known as a virtual terminal. The virtual terminal is simply an on-line location that you can log into which brings up a screen that has fields you can fill in with the credit card information and process any orders that you have, whether the orders come from mail, phone, fax, or in person. Once orders have been placed, you can view them in a reports screen, whether the orders have come through your web site, or have been entered by you directly.
With us you have access to a number of gateways. Perhaps the largest in terms of number of users is Authorize.Net. We can set you up with an Authorize.Net account with no start up costs.
On-line processing has the benefit of working from anywhere that you have computer access to the Internet. There is typically a small monthly gateway fee and sometimes and extra 5 to 10 cents per transaction. If you want to have a fully functional web site, it is almost mandatory to have some form of gateway.
